The One O'Clock Lab Band

Where can you hear students play jazz at a level competitive with every other professional jazz player in the world? Immerse yourself in the The One O'Clock Lab Band. The name indicates the rehearsal time for this University of North Texas jazz band.

Wiest is the director of the One O'Clock Lab Band. They received another Grammy Award nomination for the accomplished CD, Lab 2009. Wiest was also nominated for an individual Grammy in the best instrumental composition division.

"To me it's a huge thing for jazz education in general and it's an amazing thing for our program here at North Texas," says Wiest. "It says that the recording academy acknowledges that students can be competing and put on the same even playing field as professionals. Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat

In this retelling of the Biblical story, Joseph is a handsome young man who is his father's favorite child, able to interpret dreams, and the bearer of an amazing coat. These facts lead Joseph's eleven brothers to become insatiably jealous. Thus, they sell Joseph into slavery to some passing Ishmaelites. After refusing the advances of his owner's wife, Joseph is sent to jail. Once in jail, he quickly becomes popular due to his ability to interpret dreams. The Pharaoh soon hears of Joseph's ability and appoints him to the post of Number Two man in Egypt. Years later, Joseph's now starving brothers arrive in Egypt and ask Joseph, whom they don't recognize, for assistance. Joseph, in turn, gives his brothers a scare, but eventually grants them all they desire, reveals his identity, and reunites the family.

Always, Patsy Cline

The play, complete with down home country humor, true emotion and even some audience participation, includes many of Patsy's unforgettable hits such as Crazy, I Fall to Pieces, Sweet Dreams and Waking After Midnight...27 songs in all. The show's title was inspired by Cline's letters to Louise Seger, which were consistently signed "Love ALWAYS... Patsy Cline."
