The Glass Menagerie

Montgomery High School under the direction of Suzanne Ray just procured the 2014 title of 1st runner up in the AAAA UIL One Act Play in Austin last week!

In the play, The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams, Amanda Wingfield is a Southern belle past her prime, living with two grown children in a small apartment in St. Louis. Amanda dreams of a better life for her shy and crippled daughter Laura and so she pushes her son, Tom to find a 'gentleman caller' for the girl. However, the arrival of the gentleman caller sends shockwaves through the family and causes cracks to form in the delicate fantasies that have kept them going.

As a directorial choice, there are liberties taken to place Laura, Tom, Amanda and the Gentleman caller in the world of illusion or memory, as spelled out by the playwright through the narrator Tom. Few if any directors take this approach with this iconic piece to place the world in glass. There is magic from start to finish. It is a truly moving piece and one you will not quickly forget.

The public is invited this Friday at 7 PM at the Crighton Theatre. Ticket prices are $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for students. Bring a friend and come out to see this award winning presentation of The Glass Menagerie.

Delbert McClinton

Delbert McClinton proudly defies classifications. His music blends his Texas roots with roadhouse rock, juke-joint blues, Memphis soul and country. During his entire recording career, record labels have consistently tried to pigeonhole Delbert's music. But if you ask the critics about Delbert's dynamic vocals and harmonica style, you'll hear descriptions ranging from 'honky-tonk,' 'blue-eyed soul,' and 'Texas stomp' to 'country rock' and 'blues.' Delbert's music rebels against traditional categorization. Ask Delbert what kind of music he plays and he'll say, "Fun music."

Delbert was a judge for the fourth annual Independent Music Awards to support independent artists' careers. Delbert is also the feature of the musical documentary, Rocking the Boat: A Musical Conversation and Journey.

Operation Pets Alive

Operation Pets Alive! believes that many in our community share our values with regard to homeless dogs and cats. Therefore, we see a need to increase community awareness and community involvement regarding the No-Kill movement and the plight of homeless dogs and cats in our community. We want to help people "do the right thing" for animals.

Operation Pets Alive! (OPA) is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization that depends on generous donations from individuals, corporations, and foundations to fund our programs, supplies, and operational expenses. We do not receive any money from the government.

OPA's Foster/Adoption program provides animals in its care with food, shelter, veterinary care and the promotion and matching necessary to find a forever family. OPA's Trap, Neuter, Return of Feral Cats and Targeted Spay and Neuter programs help to dramatically limit the number of homeless dogs and cats entering our local shelters. Both programs require funds for low-cost spay and neuter surgeries, equipment and transportation charges.

Conroe Coffee

Here at Conroe Coffee, we strive to serve you top quality coffee, drinks, and food! My love for great coffee began in Europe. Once I tasted Lavazza, Italy's most popular brand, I knew there would never be another coffee brand for me.

Years later I opened a coffee shop in Michigan and sold Lavazza. Folks in the small town of Lake Orion, Michigan could not believe that Lavazza had arrived in their town. Much like Lake Orion, Conroe has that small town feel: Friendly folks and merchants genuinely interested in our town and bringing our customers the best of the best. We serve the best coffee, teas, sandwiches, pastries and desserts! Not to mention imported English goods! (I am English). We welcome you to our shop! Come on in, sit down, relax, and become family!
