Dave Alvin and The Guilty Ones

Known for forming The Blasters with his brother Dave in the 1980's, Dave Alvin makes his first appearance in the series. The Blasters did as much as, say, REM, The Replacements and Husker Du to revitalize American music in the early '80s. They split, though, in 1985, after just four albums. In recent years Dave Alvin has done more acoustic work, but when he arrives with his band, The Guilty Ones get ready to rock!

Dave says, "Starting in May 2011, my great band, The Guilty Ones and I hit the highways blasting and rocking our blues in every bar, theatre and joint that we could get into across America. Some of 'em we even hit twice! As you might guess, I love playing with this band and I think it shows in the live performance that was recorded last summer (2011) at The Ark in Ann Arbor. We were in Cincinnati the night before we taped this show, and we were in Chicago the night after, so this is a document of one night (mistakes, sweat and all) traveling down the endless interstate. I'm happy to be able to release this to you on DVD in a new swanky package of Eleven Eleven (expanded edition), complete with three previously unreleased songs from that album's sessions. I hope you enjoy the music and I look forward to seeing you soon somewhere down the road."

Larry Gatlin

Sharity Productions present Larry Gatlin who is best-known for his '80s hits with the Gatlin Brothers. Prior to forming and leading that family trio, he enjoyed a successful solo career with occasional support from his brothers. Gatlin was born in Seminole, TX, in 1948 and raised on country gospel music. He and his brothers, Steve and Rudy, often sang together in church, as well as on local radio and television every once in a while; they also recorded an album for the small gospel label Sword and Shield.

After high school, Gatlin enrolled at the University of Houston, where he joined a gospel group called the Imperials. The Imperials went on to perform in Jimmy Dean's Las Vegas revue, where Gatlin met Dottie West. Impressed by his songwriting, West recorded two of his compositions, "You're the Other Half of Me" and "Once You Were Mine"; not only that, she passed his demo tape around Nashville, and even paid for him to relocate there. Gatlin quickly found work as a backup singer for Kris Kristofferson, and not long after, he landed a solo deal with Monument in 1973.

The Wizard of Oz

Lions and tigers and bears! Oh my! This musical adventure is an adaptation based on the family classic film that made Judy Garland a star for her heartfelt performance as Dorothy Gale, an orphaned young girl unhappy with her drab black-and-white existence on her aunt and uncle's dusty Kansas farm. Dorothy yearns to travel "over the rainbow" to a different world, and she gets her wish when a tornado whisks her and her little dog, Toto, to the magical land of Oz. With all the classic songs from the movie including "Over the Rainbow," "We're Off to See the Wizard," "If I Were King of the Forest" and "If I Only had a Brain" you'll be singing along as the trio travels down the yellow brick road!

Performance dates are weekends July 12 - 28 Friday and Saturday nights at 8 pm with three Sunday matinees on July 14, 21 & 28 at 2 pm. Come over the rainbow with us this summer! Don't miss us in the Red, Hot, and Blue parade in the Woodlands July 4th!

Operation Pets Alive

Operation Pets Alive! believes that many in our community share our values with regard to homeless dogs and cats. Therefore, we see a need to increase community awareness and community involvement regarding the No-Kill movement and the plight of homeless dogs and cats in our community. We want to help people "do the right thing" for animals.

Operation Pets Alive! (OPA) is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization that depends on generous donations from individuals, corporations, and foundations to fund our programs, supplies, and operational expenses. We do not receive any money from the government.

OPA's Foster/Adoption program provides animals in its care with food, shelter, veterinary care and the promotion and matching necessary to find a forever family. OPA's Trap, Neuter, Return of Feral Cats and Targeted Spay and Neuter programs help to dramatically limit the number of homeless dogs and cats entering our local shelters. Both programs require funds for low-cost spay and neuter surgeries, equipment and transportation charges.

Farmer's Market at Grogan's Mill

Offering Woodlands consumers a break from their traditional grocery shopping experience, The Grogan's Mill Farmers Market is quickly becoming one of the most distinctive ongoing events in the community. Now in its fifth year, the farmers market is held from 8 a.m. to noon each Saturday at the Grogan's Mill Village Center parking lot and features dozens of local merchants selling everything from handmade soap to grass-fed beef.

The market's vendors offer items such as gourmet coffees, tamales, bakery-fresh breads and sweets, local honey and fresh fruits and vegetables grown on area farms. Denton said the fresh produce available at the market varies, depending on the season. But she said all produce is grown in Texas. The farmers market is put on each week by the Grogan's Mill Village Association. The proceeds raised from each week's markets benefit the Village Association's philanthropical endeavors, such as student scholarships.
