Montgomery Pet Partners

Our featured non-profit this month is the Montgomery Pet Partners. They work to improve the literacy skills of children in schools, and libraries, educate students in the care, handling and welfare of pets, and enhance the quality of life in individuals in hospitals and senior facilities. As a group of volunteers in combination with pets, they use this naturally occurring affection connection between people and pets to fulfill our mission.

How are they different? You and your animal partner must be tested and certified before you can become a member. The training required can seem overwhelming. However, once you become certified, you have access to many benefits including: $1 million liability insurance when volunteering and access to certain public areas that non-certified animals cannot enter.

Montgomery Pet Partners has four areas for volunteering: Hospitals; Senior Facilities; Libraries; and Schools. In our schools we use the Reading Education Assistance Dogs (R.E.A.D.) program. Each area has its own challenges and rewards. Join them in their quest to help others!
