Vaudeville Finally Comes to the Crighton

You have been hearing about the Vaudeville show for several months. So what was Vaudeville? And why is STAGE RIGHT doing a form of entertainment from 80 years ago?

When the Crighton Theatre was built in 1934, the intent was for a multiple use venue where both films and variety shows - Vaudeville - could take place.

The cost of live variety entertainment compared to films caused a decline in the popularity of Vaudeville style presentations. As a result Vaudeville never played at the Crighton.

The spirit of Vaudeville is a family friendly variety show with the best of comedy, music, dancing, and speciality acts such as magic, gymnastics, or fan dances.

Glen Lambert, the director of the Vaudeville show, has assembled talent from Montgomery County and the greater Houston area to complete the original vision for the Crighton in authentic Vaudeville style. By blending the incredible local talent with the original scripts that Glen has found, he has created an experience that will sweep you back to a simpler, more innocent time.

Performances will be from September 11 to the 27th at the historic Crighton Theatre in downtown Conroe. Call the Box Office at 936-441-SHOW for tickets.

Robin Hood, the outlaw of Sherwood Forest, leads a merry life with his followers. Anyone who is hungry or who has no place to live is welcome in the greenwood. The citizens of the forest oppose wicked Prince John. He's taken the place of King Richard the Lion-Hearted, who has gone to the Holy Land on a crusade. One day a caravan cuts through the wood. In the convoy is Robin's childhood sweetheart, Maid Marian, ward of King Richard. Alas, the evil Lady Merle of Cornwall plans to force Marian to marry the Prince in an effort to make John more acceptable to the people of England. To arms! It's up to Robin to stop the marriage, defeat a nasty sheriff and secure Nottingham for the King's return. It's all done in rousing fashion!
